Green Star is a firm believer in achieving the highest standards of safety and transparency in reporting injuries and incidents in the workplace. Green Star's conduct is primarily guided by our safety rules.
Safety is an important part of the Green Star work ethic. Green Star is reliant on everyone to be responsible for each other and to follow each and everyone’s tasks in the work environments. Safety unites us all and is an integral part of the corporate and personal responsibility.
Colleagues conduct safety audits and focused on equipment maintenance procedures. Team members share safety tips and use standardized training programs to reduce their risk.
The safety of our colleagues is of the utmost importance to us. So whatever job we do, we always incorporate the highest safety standards possible.
Biofuels, biobased materials (like cotton, wood, etc.) and food products are made from renewable agricultural feedstocks rather than from crude oil.
Biofuels are alternative fuels to fossil petroleum based fuels like natural gas, diesel or gasoline. They include, but are not limited, to biodiesel and ethanol. In fact anything that is made a fuel from agricultural sources is a biofuel.
Green Star is a recognized leader in the production of cleaner burning biodiesel. The company is also active in research to develop and commercialize the next generation of biofuels, which will include new feedstocks – like microalgae and agricultural waste, new process technologies and new products which offer the potential to achieve fuel independence and more sustainable environmental footprints. We also produce a wide variety of biobased industrial products including chemicals and fibers, and animal feed.
There are many environmental benefits to using cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel. Agricultural crops have traditionally been used to meet our needs for food, animal feed, fibers, etc. Now, new kinds of crops – algae, cellulosic ethanol sources and waste materials – will increasingly be used to help meet fuel needs. These new crops can be used for both food and fuel.
Green Star’s group of environmental experts assures the company’s actions are aligned with our environmental commitment by performing environmental audits; develop training programs, compliance systems and self-assessment procedures; issue advisories about new regulations; participate in industry groups to learn best practices; provide emissions measurement services to plants; and identify opportunities for the company to enhance our stewardship.
With resourcefulness and passion, we are focused on efficiently using water resources and minimizing the impact of our operations on the air.
The farm-to-consumer supply chain must also be sustainable. This would be accomplished by replacing the Farmer-Broker-Shipper-Processors-Distributor-Consumer supply chain with a more direct Farmer/Processor-Consumer supply chain for the farmer to share in more of the processing and distribution overhead. This Farmer/Processor must trade, transport, store and process feedstocks into products for large food, feed, industrial and energy companies.
Green Star recognizes these supply chains with integrity, and with full attention to safety and human rights, product quality and security, and the health of the environment.
Green Star is one of the world’s most forward-thinking companies regarding agricultural, industrial and energy needs for the world. The company is uniquely positioned to serve the world’s growing needs for abundant food and renewable energy.
Therefore, the Green Star team must also fulfill its responsibility to conduct itself and its business ethically and safely; to contribute to the economic and social well-being of its colleagues, stakeholders and communities; and to serve as responsible stewards of the environment.
The need for the combined effort environmental stewardship and sustainable economic models, although always necessary, has become a real awareness fact in the United States and abroad. Green and sustainable projects shall always be in Green Star’s goals.
With the decline of petroleum reserves and the growing need for environmental improvement, the need for alternative biomass and bioenergy from algae and biomass waste streams promise to provide a reliable and steadily growing stream of renewable fuels and bio-based alternatives to replace petroleum chemicals and other unsustainable materials.
Green Star firmly believes that energy and materials conservation will be the first step in achieving these goals.
After Peak Oil has come and gone and while petroleum reserves still last a couple of decades the sad fact is that we will still be reliant on fossil fuels like coal and natural gas for energy. We need to start transitioning now to a better more sustainable economy or face unprepared the unavoidable turn of events due to world fossil fuel depletion and greenhouse gas accumulation.
Green Star believes in the responsible development of agriculture and energy throughout the world, all the way from the farm to the grocery store or fuel pump. Supply chains in agricultural and petroleum products must change now to adapt to the new world needs of social responsibility, environmental protection and sustainability.
Green Star’s sustainability of our business is tied to the sustainability of the environment. The company is reducing emissions from its operations, and using energy, water and raw materials efficiently. We have a responsibility to current and future generations and to our shareholders to be good stewards of the earth.
We work to be a responsible citizen in each community by providing jobs, paying taxes and participating as financial sponsors and volunteers in projects that make these communities better places in which to live, work and do business.
We help our clients and partners, including farmers and industrialists, learn about the latest innovations, technologies and advice to support their continual education. We also believe in helping in many ways our network of partners in business, government and non-government organizations (NGOs).
Everything we do affects everybody else and our environment. Green Star is sensitive to the communities where it is engaged in business. As the company develops it will have a wider participation in community engagement strategies and programs that are aimed at fostering healthy human communities that respect the environment and human dignity.
Ultimately it is the resposability of everybody in this planet to achieve a sound environmental planet stewardship. See Joseph LaStella's editorials on CO2 Abatement and Global Warming for more information.
